Christmas Come Early Starring Owen"Blakka" Ellis

I am very honored and humbled to receive the opportunity to be a member of the Houston Team that hosted Jamaican Icon Owen "Blakka" Ellis on his Christmas 2018 US tour. It is important for us to keep Jamaica's culture alive. Our culture is at risk of being lost and so we salute icons like Owen "Blakka" Ellis whose mission is to preserve our Jamaican legacy. Blakka delivered on his promise to give clean, family friendly entertainment. He used his own story of his humble beginnings, how he was teased as a child and how he turned laughter meant to hurt him into his strength. In essence, his message reminded us to use bricks that are used to destroy us as stepping stones to overcome obstacles. There was a great turnout in spite of the weather and the audience was a diverse mix of not only Jamaicans, but members of other Caribbean Islands. Blakka delivered his message of triumph over adversity, reminded us of our core Jamaican values all while keeping us laughing.

Correct the problem at the root

In the following video, this young man is speaking to his teacher in a disrespectful manner, threatening to rob and kill her

I dont agree with using guns as a means to discipline children. Arming teachers with guns is not going to solve this problem. These are the type of kids that become "vipers" as they are now described. This is a matter for a state of emergency. Where are his parents? I need to have a word with them. He needs some serious discipline. Kids like that need correction. If he is not getting it at home, he can't be allowed to terrorize teachers like that. He needs to be placed in a program developed to teach him discipline, learn morals, respect and values and provide guidance for his life. These things should be learned at home, but obviously he wasn't taught that at home. Where did he learn that it is OK to speak to his teacher like that without fear of the consequences?  That is the problem with kids in Jamaica. This problem must be corrected at the root.

Calabar dismisses over 30 boys

http://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/lead-stories/20180830/barred-calabar-students-less-60-cent-average-will-be-barred-entering

I know many people won't agree with me but, when you gave a school that is going to dismiss over 30 boys because they didnt meet the grade, it sounds to me more like the school has failed to find ways to educate these boys.  And if the school can't find ways to educate over 30 boys and their only solution is to dismiss these boys, then it is time for that principal to go. Basically what he is saying is that he has reached his limit and he is no longer fit for the job and it is time for a new principal with fresh , new, creative ideas to step up to educate the boys and arm them with tools for this modern time we are living in. The old methods of teaching are not working. Watch and see if this school doesn't change their way of teaching, they are on their way down. And for those people who are comparing Calabar's standards with UWI, lately UWI has to advertise to get new students. Students are leaving and going to UTECH, NCU and other colleges.  Students have choices nowadays. They don't have to subscribe to archaic systems of education anymore. #staywoke

Many Foreigners Getting Jamaican Citizenship

http://jamaicans.com/foreigners-jamaican-citizenship-rises/#.W3QfsQ9EFb0.facebook

I am not against the Chinese , Spanish, German, or any other group coming to Jamaica, because after all, our motto is "out of many one people ". And many of us are biracial or mixed with different ethnic groups. Many Jamaican communities are.made up of the descendants of Chinese, Spanish, German, African, Indian, Scottish, Irish and so on. My point is this, the government officials negotiating contracts for the long term use of our resources need to ensure that the contracts benefit the locals by providing employment opportunities and the it is mandated that a great percentage of the profits are reinvested into the local economy. However what is happening is that the foreigners sign these long term contracts, use the resources, send the majority of the profits to their foreign based banks, and then the result is the Jamaicans left in a worse state than before these foreigners came. Then after their lease is done, the foreigners leave Jamaica to go back to their country or apply for citizenship somewhere else. Why do I keep ranting about thus on social media? So that I can educate my younger family members and friends so that when they become leaders of our siciety, they will understand what needs to be done to help lift Jamaica out of poverty. And also to help the less fortunate become aware if how their own birthright is being sold to foreigners, so they can become smart and put a stop to this destructive cycle.
